fragile home

I think I hit the extent of my cheap phone's camera abilities with this picture. I'm still surprised I was able to capture the faint spiderweb foreground compared to the business of the forest. These spiders have had webs constructed on every tree in our woods, and with a lot of editing, I was able to give one a spotlight.

  1. Smartphone cameras are often very good at macro and using them close up defocuses the background. You're usually looking at the equivalent of about f/12 on a regular DSLR, but even f/12 is pretty blurry when you're focused a few inches away.

If you're looking for a DSLR, try and find an older Nikon; people are dumping them cheap because the older cameras are losing support. I paid $75 for a Nikon D3000, and it's not bad.
